Manufacturing in Ulyanovsk – The factory on the Volga River

Lying to the east of the gates of Ulyanovsk, the modern industrial shop floors extend over an area approximately the size of three football fields. DMG MORI is writing Russian industrial history here. In the birth city of Wladimir Iljitsch Uljanow – better known as Comrade Lenin – around 130 workers manufacture the most modern machine tools for the Russian market. The factory was opened in September 2015 and is another milestone for the city on the Volga, which has long been known as an industrial center.

The legendary Russian off-road vehicle UAZ also had its origin here as well as the massive transport aircraft Antonov An-124 Ruslan. Superlatives like this automatically draw attention to the industry. But the town of Simbirsk, which was renamed as Ulyanovsk in 1924 in honor of Lenin, has much more than just this to offer. The dense forests that surround it, the mighty flow of the Volga River – nature alone is impressive enough. Similarly the temperature differences of up to 65 degrees Celsius in the year. A glance at the history of the fortress city, founded in 1648, allows Ulyanovsk to be viewed in a new light. The magnificent merchant houses from the 19th century characterize the old city to this day. The ideal location for DMG MORI as a Russian manufacturer.
