09.04.2019|Girls’ Day 2019

A first glimpse into the technical world

Girls' Day in Germany has been taking place for almost 20 years and is intended to encourage girls to take up scientific and technical occupations – in other words, activities that are regarded as classic "male occupations".

Girls' Day 2019 was a great opportunity for girls from the fifth grade upwards to find out about our technical apprenticeships at the production sites. On 28 March in Bielefeld, Seebach and Pfronten, the interested young ladies were able to gain a first insight into the world of DMG MORI – with practical experience naturally taking centre stage.

Girls' Day on 28 March 2019 once again impressively demonstrated how exciting and varied technical professions can be. After a brief introduction to the company at Bielefeld as a technology location and the presentation of individual apprenticeships – Industrial mechanic, electronics technician, cutting machine operator and mechatronics technician – the motto was: visit the training workshop and work hands-on.

Under the guidance of the trainees, the girls were able to test their own skills at the various work stations. For example, they were able to get an impression of working on a lathe and talk to our apprentices and trainers.

The participants were able to demonstrate their technical skills.

At DECKEL MAHO Pfronten, eleven girls from middle school, secondary school or grammar school were given the opportunity to get to know our technical apprenticeships as industrial mechanics, electronics technicians for automation technology and mechatronics engineers.

They were able to try their hand at various hands-on stations. The girls particularly liked soldering, exercises with pneumatics or the construction of small circuits.

Accompanied by our apprentices the participants were able to look over the shoulders of our apprentices and carry out a skilful assembly exercise themselves.
