Rainer Niederer
Technical buyer for DECKEL MAHO Pfronten GmbH
Technical expertise and commercial understanding
As a technical buyer for the DECKEL MAHO Pfronten GmbH, Rainer Niederer is responsible for an important and broadly diversified range of tasks at both the technical and commercial level: “Together with colleagues from design, application technology and quality assurance, I define quality standards for the components required,” says the 46-year-old, who studied mechanical and industrial engineering.
His extensive training and knowledge of technology helps him to be able to speak about all issues on an equal footing. Commercial know-how is just as important. “We need commercial awareness to enable us to select the right supplier in the most cost-efficient way.”
He became aware of the profession of purchaser through company presentations during his course of studies: “It quickly became clear to me that the job was very varied and I would be able to perfectly apply what I had studied.” The reality of everyday working life, which also includes routine tasks such as requesting new articles or invoice checking, confirmed Niederer’s assessment. The reason why his job is so exciting is that no two days are ever the same: “Negotiations with suppliers, meetings on diverse projects and also the escalation process if delivery dates are not fulfilled ensure that every day is interesting.”
After 17 years at DMG MORI Rainer Niederer knows that his decision was the right one – also because the working environment in such in a large corporation suits him perfectly: “The development opportunities at DMG MORI are excellent, also because there is a comprehensive training program and many international locations and divisions.”
